September 25, 200916 yr I have an '88 GL EA82. and occasionally the voltage (from the alternator) peaks at 18-19 volts. I have a bit of time, is there anyway to fix the voltage regulator on it? Aside from replacing it.
September 25, 200916 yr I've been fighting with the alternator for 4 years, untill I bought a refurbished one (Hitachi), after atempting to repair the old one dozens of times.
September 26, 200916 yr The regulator is an IC type - they are not repairable. Cost to replace just the IC is much more expensive than a replacement alternator and with the replacement you will get brushes, bearings, etc. Try upgrading to the Nissan Maxima 90 Amp unit - they seem more reliable from my experience. September 26, 200916 yr With those voltage spikes it doesn't take long to cook the battery. May want to pop a cap and check it.
