November 23, 200916 yr Interesting issue. The horn and hazards don't work, but the clock does, but it resets every time I start the car. Since all three are on the same fuse, I figure some one previously must have rewired something. The clock I can live without. However, it won't pass inspection w/o a horn and hazards. I am thinking the switch assembly in the steering column is shot. Any thoughts? BTW, my directional signals do work.
November 23, 200916 yr Check the ignition connection plug under the dash first. They have a tendency to get toasty from over cranking and years of use. Maybe check the fusible link in the engine compartment also.
November 24, 200916 yr I have a 86 Brat, and this is what I found. The clock has a single bullet connector that runs it. It is located by the drivers side kick panel. You need to remove the plastic panel below the steering column also. There is also another bullet connector that doesn't have a connector in it in the wiring harness located close by. The wire is color is the same for both but if you tested it it probably has 12v going to it full time with the key off ( I think it might have been green but it has been a few years ago since I fixed mine.) You could probably disconnect the one you think runs the clock and start the car. If the clock does not run you know you have found the correct connector. Then it is a matter of finding the other connector which is the same color. Good luck on the horn and hazzard issues Paul
November 25, 200916 yr The fact that the clock doesn't retain the memory could very well mean that the continuous power to the clock is missing and I think Pksjeep is correct about the green wire color for the memory lead. The horn issue needs to checked out by running a power jumper directly to the horns. They may be bad. If they work then you need to check the connection to the horns and the horn switch. For the hazzard lights you need to make sure power is getting to the module for the hazzrds. If that is ok and the switch is making proper connection to the module in order to activate them then the module is most likely bad.
