5 speed DR stuck in 4WD

Featured Replies

In process of lift/ejswap/5speed DR swap into 84 wagon.

Engine and transmission are in and 5 speed works.

I am stuck in 4wd and can't get out!!!!!

I have tried pulling, prying, disconnecting selector and disengaging by hand and nothing.

Suggestions?

Did you just put it in 4WD and now it won't come out? Or have you done some recent work on it?

I had my '86 wagon stuck in 4WD and found the way to get it out, was to let if drive backwards for about 20 yards (in gear), then depress the clutch and pop the lever back into 2WD.

check to see if you put one of the bolts in backwards right at the shift lever

check that.. there was a thread not so long ago that this was the solution. found here: http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=105976

also, i had the same issue, wasnt changing anything around though... i was bound up so i jacked the back tires off the ground.. gave them a slight spin and the d/r lever was able to disengage.

Backing up did not good.

I jacked up drivers side; removed drive shaft and she shifted like butter..... like butter!
