December 3, 200916 yr Hi there everybody, I'm not too knowledgable at all about cars yet, and I was wondering about this little part of a hose that sticks out. If I plug the hose, the engine idles a little higher, And I don't know where the hose originally went. The hose is circled in the pics, just wondering if anybody knew what it is going to/coming from, and if I should re attach it somewhere, or just plug it off. Sorry about the blurry pics, my camera is cheap. Thanks to all. Edited December 4, 200916 yr by chefgeoff posted pics
December 3, 200916 yr You might want to upload those pics to something other than myspace. I don't do myspace nor any other social networking sites. And frankly most of the people here that have the knowledge you are looking for don't either - no time for that stuff. GD
December 4, 200916 yr Looks like a cracked vacuum plug to me. Cut a peice of hose, slip it over the nipple, and stick a bolt in the end. You'll want to adjust your idle speed after you block it as you have fixed a vacuum leak and it should idle better. GD
December 4, 200916 yr Definatly plug that, it is a vacuum leak right now. Even if you don't know where it goes, you cant leave it unplugged like that.
December 4, 200916 yr Author sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm pretty new and trying to learn more, but what will a vacuum leak harm in my engine?
December 4, 200916 yr Makes you run lean, it can fry your plugs and cylinders, warp your heads and do a lot of other damage resulting in total failure of your engine.
December 4, 200916 yr A vacuum leak will not really harm the engine, it will just make it run like crap. Most of your symptoms will be at idle... if it even idles at all with a leak that big. You can expect stumbling, poor acceleration and hesitation. I would plug that line for now. If I remember correctly, it leads to the air intake box where your air filter is. Look at the bottom of the airbox, and see if you find a broken hose or something there. Also, you should check to see if there are any other vacuum leaks. You can find them easily with a can of carb cleaner. Just let the engine run at idle, and spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold & see if your idle smooths out or increases. If it does, there is another leaking hose somewhere. Pinpoint it with more carb cleaner You should eliminate any leaks to make sure your engine is running its best.
December 4, 200916 yr Author alright, I'll plug that up today. Try to find time to find any others sometime too, but not in a hurry, as the brat is just sitting until I pay off 5 years back registration
