EJ22 to Gen II Brat

I have heard that when doing this swap you need to get a motor that was out of a manual car to go in a manual vehicle. Is this true and what is the differance between auto motor?

no you don't need a motor out of a manual car...the one i have in my Brumby/Brat is out of an auto.

once you take the flexplate or clutch off there isn't difference as far as i know

as for the ECU differences i would think an auto one could be made to work by making the ECU think its in neutral or park however i wouldn't know...i have a factory dizzy an LPG carb on my one

I put an EJ into my GL wagon that was attached to an automatic - just pulled the flexplate off and bolted the EA flywheel up (after some grinding on the bolt holes). I don't think there are any computer differences - the legacy had a separate tranny control unit. The only difference I can think of with the wiring between the auto and the manual is a neutral safety switch on the auto and a clutch safety switch or some such thing for the manual trans.

In Numbchux conversion manual he mentions something about the neutral switch. I can't remember the details but iirc you just don't wire the neutral switch. Read through his write up 6-7 times just to be sure
