  1. lets see...... prices are rounded somewhat.

    Trans - $70

    Clutch - $120

    Flywheel - $20

    Driveshaft - $50

    Tires - $500

The tires were the worst part. I did all the labor myself minus getting the flywheel resurfaced. I filed out the flywheel to bolt up to my trans by hand (MUCH better to have a machine shop drill the holes out). Also, I rebuilt my trans and swapped the axle stubs for the bigger sized ones so my stock axles would still work.

If you just go for a lift and not crazy offroad you might want to consider top hat spacers. Relatively inexpensive and they perk the cars ride a bit. My buddy ran then in his newer impreza with some general grabber tires and the thing looked mean. The lift itself wouldn't kill the life of the car. swapping out the trans makes it a little different, and offroading it might hurt it a little also. But just make sure to do regular up-keep and you should be good to go.

  2. I'm actually selling my car to a buddy and just got a toyota 4runner... haha
  3. Pretty sure mine came from that generation of legacy (95-99). If you can make it to a junkyard and measure the length of the shock tube that might help you know how much lift (approx) you will get. The springs should help some since an outback is a tad heavier than your impreza.
  4. little inspiration. outback struts and 215/75r15 geolanders. Even with my stock tires I liked having the bigger bracket to keep the rear wheels centered. Also, I haven't had a rear sway bar for.... almost a year and I do probably 90% on road driving and its fine, bit of body roll but not near as much as my 4runner has with the swaybars.
  5. Sorry, I don't get on here as often as I used to. Those struts should work well for you. The height I am not 100% sure. I never did any measuring I just threw them on, and I could fit my tires so I was happy. You will have to use your stock rear top hats and you will need a spacer on the top of the shock cylinder (I used a washer and filed the opening a bit bigger). The fronts should (should!) bolt right up. The lateral link bracket will help bring your rear tires back a bit more centered in the wheel well but even with those I still had to massage (beat the living crap out of) the paneling right behind the rear doors to fit my 215/75r15 tires. Hopefully this helps you some.

  6. I totally forgot about this and never got my pics of Gir into the running... oh well. Glad to see some sweet rigs make it into the second round.
  7. Hey glad to help. Wish I had to drive to do more with it, but all money is going into saving for a house downpayment and diapers... bleh.
  8. It handles decent on the freeway surprisingly. I just have no need to take it on the freeways. If I make abrupt turns or corrections I REALLY feel the bugger sway.
  9. Stock front sways, no rear sway bar at all. I only drive in town mostly so the body roll doesn't bother me at all.
  10. The Yokohama geolander at/s I have on my OBS have been awesome. Ahd almost a year with bad camber and such and they have very little wear on them. Great winter traction (pulled a few people out of some snow banks this last winter) surprisingly quiet on the road, and good traction off the beaten path. I have gone on light duty offroading with mine and they have performed admirably.
  11. I have no rear sway bar and the handling is... ok. I wouldn't recommend autox thats for sure! For around town its fine. On the freeway it gets a little squirly but not too bad. I do not have camber bolts in my rear and I haven't checked my alignment because frankly, I am too cheap and I hardly drive the car as it is with fuel costs lately and the fact I work too much. I need to get some sometime I just keep hearing that they have a tenancy not to be as solid. Maybe people were wrong tho. I used my stock impreza top hats which bolted right up with the addition of a washer added. I will post pics later today about the spacing problem with the top hat or you can find my build thread.
  12. -outback struts and springs, swapped rear top hats so no drilling needed. -215/75R15 Yokohama geolander AT/S Had to bash in fenders a bit and trim bumpers -Outback trailing arm bracket. -custom aluminum skid plate -5 speed dual range swap. -Tubular steel bumper
  13. I've only put maybe 1200 miles MAX on the trans since the last rebuild. It doesn't get driven too much since work is only 4 miles away and if I have to drive anywhere too far the wife is coming with me and I can just take her car. Longest trip its done in one shot was 70 miles on the freeway and it felt good. not the most stable... but it did its job. Hopefully the snow stops so the roads will open and I can get back into the hills.
  14. I really should pay attention to my thread... The 2.2 is doing just fine pushing the car around. it can handle freeways but isn't going to set any records thats for sure. drove it down to a big subaru meet here and back just fine, then the next morning went to drive to work, made it less than a mile before the timing idler gear blew out its bearings... so Gir now has a new water pump, semi new pulleys from my wrx motor, and a new timing belt and oil change drives great. The trans is holding up PERFECT. It drips a very small amount of oil right onto the exhaust which i need to do something about, but its a VERY small amount. I haven't done anything to the fluid since the last rebuild i posted about and when i checked the fluid a few days ago it looked brand new still and right at the perfect level. Sad news is that one of my outer cv boots got a crack in it and is starting to throw some grease, gotta get that taped up or something before it looses all the grease. Here are a few pictures for the masses.
  15. I did the solidworks of it. but otherwise i bought the bumper as is, and had some friends who know how to weld make everything work. so it cost like like $50 in parts, and some burgers.
  16. Next will be adding to the front bumper with some more tubing so it is covering the front of the uni-body. And then adding some steel mesh like sewer grate to prevent rocks and logs from hitting the radiator and jazz but allow for air flow. And then... I dunno. I don't think I will do a spare tire gate ever. I want to get a better gear basket sometime and I will just rock my spare tire up there (once I get one)
  17. clutch pedal swap...? Do you mean clutch in general? I used a clutch from an xt and a flywheel from an ea81 machined to the xt specs. .91 step face or something.
  18. Still work to be done, but its coming along.
  19. really been since july since I posted anything about this thing...? man I suck. Well it daily's really good. Does freeways alright, doesn't like to go uphill loaded with people to go skiing more than 25mph. makes me want to run an extra knob to have fwd lo... but here is whats happening tomorrow.
  20. Went up the canyon and found a tiny bit of snow, mostly slush, one big puddle, and a lot of clouds. Nothing technical, just out to see the fall colors and see what the weather was like on top of the mountain.
  21. The struts and springs were about $80 from a junkyard

The trans was about $50 on half off day

I swapped my front diff from the 5 speed over to the dual range so I didn't have to make custom axles. I got my adapter plate for like $60 from a guy I know, and then the flywheel was $20, and the clutch was $130.so I guess before the tires it cost only like $340

I actually took the skidplate off when i rebuilt the trans so I haven't had it on for about a month. but for the week or so i had it on the heat was no problem. I would like to get some slots cut in it or some holes drilled to allow some air flow possibly. Good luck on the build and make a thread so we all can follow along and give input as needed.

  22. Here you go. I dunno if this is the one you were trying to upload but its the one you text me the other day. Looks good, other than now im not the only lifted subie in town
  23. Marty's brat is so hot right now. Fun to drive also if you ignore the random vibrations
  24. This is exactly what I want for my OBS, you beat me to it. I might copy you a bit...
  25. wait... this isn't safe then? Totally kidding. I got a kick out of your "system" for changing your wheel bearing.
