EA82 MPFI 4 plug

Featured Replies

can you add a knock sensor from a turbo model to an NA MPFI 4 plugger (MAF) so you can push the timing further forward and let the knock sensor take the timing back as required?

yeah just sounds like a pretty simple mod to get more out of the NA engine and allow you to get the full benefit out of higher octane fuel. just thought someone would have given it a go and see if it works

Probably have to rewrite the software in the ECU to take advantage of it. Or use a turbo ECU without the turbo. The software in the stock ECU isn't going to be looking for the knock sensor if they aren't already equipped with one.

maybe. i just thought that since the NA ecu has the knock sensor output there ready to go it could be just a case of hook it up and go.

a knock sensor isnt that complicated really - it's just a microphone. the ecu sees the voltage at the particular rpm and knows that it means knock, and thus backing the timing off until the voltage spike from the knock goes away. once it's gone, it slowly starts adding back in timing to go back to it's original timing

The ECU may phisically have the pins - but it probably doesn't have the circuits and it definitely doesn't have the programming enabled. There would be no point to supplying the feature and if it were as simple as adding the knock sensor then the ECU would have no way of knowing if it should/should not output a sensor malfunction code when it is not present.

99.9% chance that hooking up a sensor to the pins will result in nothing at all. You would have to hack the ECU to enable/add the code to handle the knock sensor timing routines. A simpler method would be to install Mega-Squirt or similar engine management and chuck the ECU.

true, just thought someone might have given it a go to see if it works.

so still no one knows of anyone that might have tried this??

If you really wanted you could hook up a Knock sensor, AND run a turbo ECU.

I've been running an MPFI non-turbo engine on a Turbo ECU for months now.....runs great......(other than the cracked head.....again:rolleyes:)

If you got paypal.....I'll sell you one or two of em if you want.

Heck I'd like to trade for an NA 4 plug ECU.

send me a PM if you are interested
