Heater - 1 side blowing cold

Featured Replies

Good morning all!! I am having a problem my heater inmy 05 Sub Legacy with 195K on it. Seems when I use the heat to blow on the face, the driver's side is warm, passenger side COOOOLLLD! I thought initially I had a window cracked, but nope. Any ideas or suggestions???

Ok this has me concerned. This is coming up a lot lately on the outback list as well.

There have been a couple of fixes:

1- Check to make sure the doors in the HVAC system are all working. If it is actually moving air through the passenger side footwell the door is working.

2-flush the heater core. Flush it repeatedly. No need to flush the entire cooling system.

3- the nuclear option - the heater core is clogged and needs to be replaced.

hubby tells me that the resevoir was low, coolant added and problem solved...real test will be tomorrow morning at 5am when it's 10 degrees outside!!

ok i spoke too soon, problem NOT solved...:-\ going for the next option now

there might not be a fix. it could be a design flaw problem that cannot be addressed.

hope not, but it sure looks that way.

keep me updated.

it used to work just fine...how could it now be a design flaw??

you are right.

if it did work okay, then we will find a way to get it back to that.

With that many miles, have you had the hvac air filtration filter changed yet. They can get quite bad after that many miles. Mine had 89k on it and it was TERRIBLE/double my parents

My parents had 36k on theirs, and it was Bad/nasty

do you mean the cabin filter?? we have changed that a few times, it was nothing terrible

if the heater core is made of a reactive material with the coolant ( maybe the supplier changed the spec). It can have narrow passageways that allow it to clog easily. those would be design flaws.

yeah, that thing is so easy to change...

i drove the car 100K before i even knew there was not an original one in there!! but i change it about every 30K and it's never gross, just a little gray...i don't think that's the problem with the heat though
