Pulling the heads on the 2.2 impreza. Those bolt heads look a little strange., Do they take just a 12 pt socket? Looks like some other pattern,

12 point socket is correct

Yes - 12pt - that's common with larger bolts when the head needs to fit in a tight clearance area - either 12pt or socket-head. If they made them 6pt heads they would have to be a 16 or 17mm head vs. a 14mm with the 12pt - it gives more grip with the socket over a 6pt or a socket-head. Makes the bolts more expensive but sometimes that's worth it.

I put a 14mm 12 point on it, but it seems that with such a shallow bolt head, there is not much purchase by the socket. The bold head has a skirt and the socket is beveled on the end.

Grind the bevel off,if you need to.

Good idea. I shoulda thought of that.
