Quick question.

Will the rear hubs out of a MY96 outback auto fit a MY96 outback manual 5 speed ???

definitely. hubs don't vary between manual/auto.

 

the main thing to pay attention to is ABS. ABS hubs have the proper mounting for the ABS sensor but are otherwise the same. So you can install an ABS hub on a non-ABS car (you just have an empty unused hole) but you can't install a non ABS rear hub on an ABS car. Well you probably could if you drill the boss out and drill and tap the bolt hole for the retaining bolt.

i've never done one, but i remember reading something about an arm? bolt that is a real bolt breaking bear to remove due to rust?. so the general consensus was to leave the arm? on the knuckle and disconnect the other end of the arm from the frame?

 

anyway, some one should know for sure.

Lateral Link Bolt?

If there's rust the lateral link bolt won't come out, period. I just did my 1996 Legacy last year which spent it's prior life in Pittsburgh, PA. It has zero rust on it and the bolt came out without much problem. So even the winter, salt, and such didn't hose me on that one. So there's a chance, but often times they're a real bear to get out. If there's any rust definitely a good idea to swap the entire arm.
