hi everyone,

i own a 2003 singapore peanut eye ts. i'm from the caribbean (Trinidad) and currently is pretty hot. but on mornings and whenever my engine is cold, i have to crank atleast two to three times for the engine to start. and at times the engine tumbles for atleast 6 seconds before starting. now this only happens when the engine is cold. after it starts it runs fine.

have noticed as well the idling sometimes goes up and down.

i have a new battery and plug wires.

was doing some research and could it be:

coolant sensor, plugs?? i have no idea

thanks

Hi kevin. I'd start with some general maintenance if it hasn't been done recently--air & fuel filters, new PCV valve, check vacuum lines for leaks, clean the IACV (idle air control valve). Are you getting a CEL?

Did you use Subaru OEM plug wires (you really need to if you didn't)? I'd replace the plugs too--they're relatively cheap.

I kinda' doubt that it's the ECTS (engine coolant temp sesor) since you say the car runs fine after it starts. Are you getting a CEL?

Good luck.

btw, can dirty injectors or throttle body cause it?
