May 21, 201015 yr so my 96 leggy's AWD went out, and as of now its only front wheel drive. i installed a fuse in the FWD fuse slot to prevent further damage than i already might have caused... $#!*. anyone else have this problem before? i have done a ton of research and the costs i have come up with for this fix is spendy. i think its either that solenoid in the rump roast of the transmission that engages the clutch packs for the rear, or its the packs themselves... im so lost. a subaru isnt a subaru without AWD!!
May 21, 201015 yr How many miles. What caused you to think you needed the FWD fuse? If the FWD fuse is working the solenoid is working..... for now. Did all your tires match? Sometimes it fails just due to high mileage. What are the symptoms?
May 21, 201015 yr Author 225,000 miles well, i put it in there so just in case the solenoid was still active, it wasnt TRYING to engage the rear (if that makes sense) yes all my tires are new no symptoms, seriously, just one day i was tryin to crawl up this hill and i couldnt make it and it got pointed out to me that just my front tires were spinnin. i can also feel the power difference big time while accelerating Edited May 21, 201015 yr by kevinhoffert
May 21, 201015 yr At that mileage i would say it is just tired. People will say put the car on jack stands etc etc. It's just tired. You can try (i think it is lucks) LSD rear additive. someone will chime in with what it is. nipper
May 21, 201015 yr You said you did lots of research - did you find anyone with the same symptoms? have you ever had torque bind or other issues at all? AT light blinking 16 times at start up? Did the FWD light come on with the fuse installed?
May 21, 201015 yr Author nobody else with this problem i could find. and no, no torque bind whatsoever. no AT light either, the only code the car throws is for the o2 sensors, and i just installed the fuse for fear of i might fu*k somethin else up runnin it like i was in FWD without that fuse in there. so i put one in. AND, no FWD light at all... which really confuses me
May 21, 201015 yr no AWD could mean no AT fluid pressure. this could be a clogged fluid passage way or maybe "gummed" up transfer clutch plates. but my guess is worn, notched, hubs. there have been others with no AWD and i seem to remember that the worn notches were the problem. any one else remember this, or have a thought???
