June 9, 201015 yr Hey I have a chilton manual fpr Legacy/Forester 2000-06 and I`m having the headgaskets and timing belt and all the seals replaced on my 2001 forester. Is it acurrent and true? Thanks, Roger
June 9, 201015 yr Poke around here. Some folks had links to download the FSM. I used to but they may have gotten away in a recent laptop incident. That is definately better and potentially free.
June 9, 201015 yr I have noticed some discrepencies in my haynes manual, the most accurate source of information as mentioned is the FSM... you could do a quick google search of " Subaru Forester FSM"...any specific information your looking for?... you mentioned your having them replaced, are you do the work?
June 11, 201015 yr Author Ok thanks, I have a mechnic thats gonna do it for me. But he`s never done a subaru befor.
June 11, 201015 yr Firsts and foremost, have the mechanice MAKE 100% darn certain he buys the headgaskets from Subaru. No parts store gaskets....He has to use genuine oem new style headgaskets that come from the Subaru dealer. That is a must. mkay. this is one important deal on the particular engine you have, any ej25 this applies to. He cannot just get by with a felpro, or no name brand......this is very very important
June 11, 201015 yr This DIY H-G write-up (for RS25 engine) may help: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f105/t78972-diy-head-gasket-replacement.html But I don't know if it is exactly applicable to your vehicle.
June 12, 201015 yr Ok thanks, I have a mechnic thats gonna do it for me. But he`s never done a subaru befor. is it that hard to find a qualified subaru mechanic in your area? im sure someone can recommend one for you. just thinking it will save you from headaches laters especially if your gonna give the guy a chilton manual.
