Paint for Valve Covers/Oil Pan

Recommended Posts

Any enamel should work fine. The valve covers don't get that hot as they are insulated by the cork gaskets.

High temp paint would be adviseable on the engine block and heads, etc.

Speaking of the valve covers and gaskets, any special treatment they need ( RTV ) before installing? And if I'm going to reseal the engine, I assume that I should wait until I have all the gaskets to do the Valve cover gaskets.

I coat the cork in a thin layer of RTV and let it dry. Keeps the cork from absorbing oil and dramatically extends it's life and sealing ability.

All cork is NOT the same. Only get your pan and valve cover gaskets from the dealer. Aftermarket is junk - especially on the pan gasket.
