February 20, 200422 yr i was just wondering if it would be safe to tow a small uhal trailer with my gl10. i put a hitch on it i found at the junk yard on another suby. in the manual it says its not recomended, but im sure some of you have. i also know you are not supposed to tow with a fwd vehicle. im sorry for the newb question but i need to know. i am having a baby in a few months and need to go back home to get my old baby stuff. its about a 600mi trip.
February 20, 200422 yr I have done it, not for nearly as many miles as U want to thoe. But I have used my '85 to tow a 2000# trailer with NO PROBLEMS:D I even hooked up my 3600# boat & trailer to move it around the yard before. This was all done with one of my bumpers with a built in hitch. I'm not sure what kind of hitch U have, but make sure it's a GOOD one;)
February 20, 200422 yr i'm sure if the trailer is not too incredibly big and heavy a soob would pull just fine.. keep an eye on the temps though
February 20, 200422 yr i towed a 2400 lbs trailer from my -3 parking in 2wd. if your gear don't have a 2wd gear - i would disasemble the dryshaft (if the road is not snowed) to avoid transfer damege and gear heating. check 4 regulations and electricity port to fit the trailer tafic lights. don't know them since i never visited the states........
February 20, 200422 yr Author well its just like a the smallest covered uhaul trailer, and im only toting like babybed, bouncer, and things of that nature. not really a lot but more than the inside has room for with the family inside it. as far as the hitch goes its just the class 1 hitch that comes as a factory option on some of the older soobs. i scored it off a car at the junk yard. it says subaru on it.
February 20, 200422 yr A bud towed a small enclosed U-Haul from Portland (Ore.) to Phoenix, AZ via Las Vegas in mid summer, no problems. EA 81 coupe. Don't expect to be going too fast, especially on uphill grades. Please be aware of traffic behind you, pull off if neccessary.
February 20, 200422 yr I've towed a sail boat for 15 years with mine. Great tow vehicle, you can beach launch! You shouldn't have any problems with a small trailer. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be...... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
February 21, 200422 yr I used to routinely tow sailboats with my 82, FWD wagon. Had it loaded with boat stuff, 5 people and their gear for 3 days and the car never complained. Not a problem.
