AT chirping when put into Reverse?

Featured Replies

My Automatic tranny has been chirping when i put it into reverse? Any help on diagnosis would be most appreciated. Its got about 200k on it. Its in a 1995 2.2 imp. If i shift really really slow and soft it doesnt chirp as bad.? Loose something? It only chirps when i put it in reverse. Other than the chirping in reverse it seems to run fine and shift fine?....for now??

With subaru's the first step is to change the fluid. Can you define this chirp beter. Does it do it cold or wamr or all the time. What does the engine RPM do? How is it in the other gears?

How is it Neural to Reverse. Does this happen from Park to reverse or D to R.

How is the tranny otherwise.

What is the fluid condition.

Sure it's not your exhaust squeaking? Mine does the same thing...

Its an AWD auto tranny. Its fine shifting into all other gears. Just when I go from park to R. Cold or warm. RPM's stay the same. Its not as bad if I baby it into gear. The tranny otherwise is fine. The fluid seems fine and at proper level. It chirps somethin wierd, kinda like somethin is loose, so maybe the exhaust suggestion might be it. It just went on an 1100 mile trip and had no problems and the chirping wasn't as bad as usual. I will investigate further. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Unless you can feel the car learch when it chirps, it is most likley the exhaust system as the cause of the noise.
