August 20, 201015 yr So 84 gl 4x4 wagon, trying to put new pads on, went to squeeze the pison and it moved in a bit and then stopped, the piston did not go flush with the caliper, is it supposed to go flush? It makes it so i need about a quarter inch, more until it will slide over the new pads?
August 20, 201015 yr Someone else can probably confirm this, but on the gen 3 GL's (sounds like you have a gen 2) you have to rotate the piston in. Dont just push it in. Some people like to stick pliers in the little holes and twist, others use a small cube with pins on it from the auto parts store that you can stick on your socket wrench and turn it.

August 20, 201015 yr yes, you have to turn them to get them to go in. use pliers or whatever, i ended up buying one of these from the local auto parts store. (tool for the job) https://www.alltools.com.au/shop/images/sz/2447.jpg it was cheap.
