I completely agree with Bushwick. Rust and the body work alone would make me worry, plus you can see some things rusting in the engine compartment. With all the visual issues I would be pretty surprised if the engine/suspension modifications are done right/well. For an '01 with 170k miles, in good condition I would pay 3,500 tops. For that one, I would offer . . 2,000. .maybe.

Thanks for the pics Bratman, but now I have confused myself.. I had thought I read that forester struts had more room under the lower spring perch, but this look like that is not right. Mabye I need to get outback struts for my 96 OBS instead of forester.. Anyone else have input on which struts (outback or forester) have more room beneath the lower spring perch?

Welcome to the party Dan. I concur with what grossgary says, It should be pretty straight forward. If you have any self-service junkyards in your area I would recommend getting your struts there as you will gain experience pulling them off the donor car before digging into your own car. If you have more questions about it post em up in the 1990's-Present area, probable get more action there. Cheers

Brand New Subaru Owner - '84 GL AWD
chrisgpz replied to JustGo_GL's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Wow, amazing find JustGo. I've been over snoqualmie and stevens pass many times in my old 84GL, it's slow going but I've never had any real problems. I just had to sell mine, but it was the best car I have ever owned, slow but very capable. Can I have more info on the documentary? Is the GL going to be the star car in the movie? -
The retrofit subforum has TONS of info on this: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forum/18-subaru-retrofitting/ Link in the first post here seems to cover what you are asking, I believe the swap has been done many time by people here, a little time with the search function should get you a plethora of data: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/67098-please-read-ej-swap-write-up-ver-20-now-in-pdf-form/ Cheers

Ea 81 exhaust, what you guys running?
chrisgpz replied to jonas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
84 wagon, I have a gutted cat, that goes to 2'' into a turbo muffler. A little louder that i would like, i think cause the gutted cat acts like a lil reverb chamber. Even though it is a little loud, it is better that having that stupid super restrictive stock muffler. On my previous car (86 hatchback) I had a custom y-pipe with no cat into 2'' with about 2 feet of cherry bomb (or whatever you wanna call it) in the middle and no muffler. It sounded amazing, not too loud, just gooood. I kick myself about every week that i didn't keep that y-pipe. sigh. -
hmm, good idea. Nothing in BBB. Yelp has a few 'filtered' reviews, mostly good and one rant that the owner responded to.

http://www.enginehaus.com/engines located in Gig Harbor, Washington. Anybody know anything about these guys, I always find their ad while searching craigslist for ea81 parts. One of these days ima be in the market for a rebuilt ea81 (i hope).

no, it is a small loop made of nylon strapping. located in the middle down in the crack between the seat part and the back part.

I run into the 3 letter word search problem all the time. Here is a good google tip for you: use "site:" to search within a specific site. so type into google: egr 80's site:ultimatesubaru.org egr - your search term 80's - (another search term) to get it to look mostly in the old gen sub-forum site: - tells it only to search in the following domain
