August 21, 201015 yr It would appear that I have a small leak in my Mom's 99 Forester's radiator. Seems to leak at the top corner of the tank when hot and pressurized. I have a new Impreza radiator. (97) It apprears to be the same thing except that the top tank seems to be a bit smaller. Can I still use this? Is it just a smaller volume radiator? Thanks for your time. Todd
August 21, 201015 yr It would appear that I have a small leak in my Mom's 99 Forester's radiator. Seems to leak at the top corner of the tank when hot and pressurized. is it near the cap? i had the same thing on my 97 obw, the leak was at the corner near the cap. i removed the overflow tank tracked it down. replaced the cap and all is good. i had noticed a loss of fluid, but never saw where until i left it idling in my driveway when i got home one day. after a few minutes i saw the drip. hope this helps.
August 21, 201015 yr Author It appears to be at the opposite end from the cap. Looks like right where the tank is crimped on. (Well thats the area that seems to stay wet). Todd
August 22, 201015 yr I am not 100% sure, but I would say "no". The 1997 Impreza had the 1.8L or 2.2L engine. The 1999 Forester has the 2.5L SOHC engine. The Impreza radiator probably couldn't handle the extra heat. BTW, when the Forester first came out in 1998 Subaru tried to make do with the clutch from the 2.2L engine. The result was tons of unhappy Forester owners with burnout clutches. Subaru doesn't engineer their parts for extra capacity.
August 22, 201015 yr Author Yea, it's best I just pick up the correct one. ESP since this is Texas and it's been way over 100 degrees continously!!! Todd
