Featured Replies

there is a black box under the passenger seat of my 2002 outback wagon. its got a speaker looking thingy on top and wires going out of it and its attached to the seat. at first I thought it was an amp the previous owner left but it has no plugs for a sub or anything and just says "high cut" by one knob and "gain" by the other. anyone know just what this is??? this thing looks stock to me but im not sure.

I cant get the photo to post i can email it to whoever wants it though.

to fix photo

sounds like the subwoofer with built in amp.

high cut = the crossover freqency adjustment

and gain = the output wattage control adjustment

if it is a sub how can i turn it on because it deffinatly isnt on. or can i turn up the gain or high cut to make it more boomy? lol

the pic it looks way to small to be subwoofer.

i say its a amplifier controller, maybe to the stock headunit? what stereo do you have, the McIntosh system has something like this.

thats what I thought, and I'm not sure what system it is its the stock system for a 2002 outback tho,it has a taape and cd bellow that it says subaru on it so i know its stock.

turn up the bass on the headunit. It should be on all the time anyway though also I think there is a fuse on the sub.

I have that all the way up but i can check the fuses should i try to turn up the gain?

It's the gummit spyin on you. Toss it in a creek and run!

Is there an LED light on it anywhere that turns on when the stereo is on? That should at least let you know it is turning on.

The "gain" knob basically controls how loud it is (not really but that's the easy explanation). Try playing with that while the head unit is playing your favorite cd and see what you get out of it.

The other is the crossover control which is what controls which frequencies get played back through the woofer. You can play around with that too to see how it works and decide where you want to set it.
