ABS Light - 97 Legacy Outback

Featured Replies

Got the ABS light on my 97 Legacy Outback and the car is up for inspection so I need to remedy this. I understand that in order to get the ABS codes I have to go under the dash, above the accelerator and look for the connector (it's yellow/orange in my case) and then put one of probes in the 6th pin hole. I found the connector but I cannot find the probes anywhere. I laid on my back and fiddled around for a while, but nada.

My OBW is a split-year 96/97. I have some 96 components (like the coil pack) and some 97. Any ideas if there was a change between the two years for ABS?

Are you sure this is the right set of instructions? It doesn't seem to include the 97 Legacy.

The connector you're looking at is probably the one for the Select Monitor. The 6-pin diagnosis connector, B82, is usually black. It and the two ground probes are typically taped up to the harness (might just look like a lump), near the connector you found and the green ones.

You probably have either the ABS 5.3 or 5.3i system.

Got the new sensor on at rear left and the light went off. Still haven't found the diagnostic connector, but will take apart the lower dash to get a good look at it.

Sometimes the test connectors are taped to the harness and very hard to find.
