Removeable Jumpseats

Featured Replies

Hello! My 1982 Brat GL has in good condition the jumpseats. However, they were loose in the bed when I got them, and have no hardware. I've been unsuccessful in finding pictures of stock mounting. Who has some good pictures of how they bolt in? Also, I'm interested in making a quick release system to remove them from the bed for hauling my mopeds around. I'm sure people have talked about this before, has anyone done it?

I wish I could help you, but I am interested in the same thing. If I don't come across an affordable OEM mount, I will design and fabricate one myself and share my results. Being easily removable is also important to me. That part of my project is still a few months down the road however.

They were welded in place at the factory. Quick release can be done by retrofitting hinges and hook pockets from any GM with removeable rear seats starting with the mid 80's Suburban 3rd row. You'll need some fabbing skills to do it, but it's not bad. The other way is a piece of 4"x4"x1/4" plate steel drilled and tapped for the appropriate sized bolt. Put the seats where you want them and drill in 4 places through the mounting frame and down through the bed. Put the plates on the underside of the bed and run the bolts through tightening them to the plates you drilled and then stitch weld the plates in place. Four bolts and they're out with no help. I've dome it both ways. I prefer the bolts. Less fabbing.

And use grade 8 bolts with plenty of anti seize....

I drilled holes in my bed and welded nuts to the bottom of it. I then strengthened the rails and put bolts down through them so I can just unbolt them anytime I need too

Thanks for the suggestions, welded up brackets today with nuts ant tacked 'em on. Works great. 006.JPG

Also attached the head rest to the frame of the seat with an additional brace, so they come out as well easily.

mine are factory 100% the seats have 2 tabs on each seat with a tamper torx holding then to the welded to bed frame. Remove the tamper torx and then they pretty much flip right out. what more do you need, i can take a video of the removal but dont show to those who want to steal mine I carry the correct torx in mine so i can pull the seat out when i move say, riding mowers, long boards, or when i move my friends crap... seats pop out in like 4 minutes, and this is all factory stuff.

ey are very removable with the correct tamper torx From factory

-ahh i was not being so nice sorry.

When I bought my brat the seats came previously removed without any hardware, never seen an unmolested set. Enjoy your beer, I agree that your post is ridiculous:banana:.

"i need a beer for even posting something so ridiculous

you are wasting time as this is all covered in the owners manual."

Well, I think you had plenty of beer before replying. Not to mention, we Brat owners are aware of the t-torx anyway, so again to quote....

Why is it someone is always getting pissy about something that is usually insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I'm guilty too, but I usually go off AFTER someone has tweaked my nuggets....

BTW, good job on the brackets Jon!

Can someone please indulge me with a photo of the OEM frame and mounts? Mine is an '86 that did not come with the seats and I am trying to fab up a frame to put them in. A picture would make it a lot easier to get right on the first try. Google has not been fantastically helpful as this is a rather obscure request.

Bonus points for seatbelt and head rest mounting also!!

Thanks guys.
