January 18, 201115 yr fuel pump bolts often shear off in the rust belt. i've had quite a few vehicles where 100% of them sheared off. got one now. what are your creative methods for reinstalling another fuel pump? i'm trying to avoid zip ties this time, though i've done it before and it's certainly the easiet solution. drilling them all out sounds annoying too.
January 18, 201115 yr i recommend as soon as one gets a newer car, to remove the nuts and apply a good coating of antisieze on these boogers, for down the road..
January 18, 201115 yr I had the same problem when I changed my pump that bracket its on broke off lucky I was able to get it back on., with screws,
January 18, 201115 yr zip ties, wire coat hangers. I have had my fuel pump fall off while off-roading. if you watch my videos, you will most likely see the fuel pump near hanging on the ground in any following shots. I suppose one could mount one under the hood, if you aren't afraid of potential fire hazards(like older ea81's)
January 19, 201115 yr Everytime I've replaced one, it's gone back in with zip-ties. I bought a chunk of 3" (I think...) radiator hose a couple years ago. happens to perfectly slip over the outside of the fuel pump. helps prevent damage to the outer case if it's up against something. I don't think there's really a good way to do it. given it's location, and the small hardware it uses, it'll be pretty prone to failure. The bracket even came out pretty easy in my loyale, but the non-OEM replacement pump was too big for the brackets, and still ended up held in with zipties.
January 19, 201115 yr Author ha ha chux nice hit, so you use zip ties only to hold the pump in place? i've always just zip tied the stock bracket in place with the fuel pump mounted to it but i like your simplicity even better. i might see if i can use some self tapping screws to set the pump bracket back in place and if not i'll just zip tie it again maybe without a bracket this time. January 19, 201115 yr yep. that plate/bracket thing get tossed in the junk heap. slide a chunk of rubber on there to isolate it, and slap a few zipties on there however fits best, and call it a day It's not perfect or exact, but it works great. Just make sure you don't have any metal-on-metal. Cause the vibrations and such WILL wear through the side of the pump.
