Responsible Jon
When I got my Brat, the Snugtop camper shell didn't have any gas struts in it. There are little brackets for them, but the struts are missing. Anyone else with the snugtop know what length eye to eye and weight of struts I need? Durania
Just a thought: Could you not prop the hatch open and measure it from the point where the strut mounts to it in full open position?
1982gl4
You will also have to measure the distance while it's closed. If the struts are too long they won't allow the hatch to close fully in the down position.
Durania
Ahh, good thinking.
Responsible Jon
I'll measure it tomorrow. Most of what I was interested in was the "weight" of the struts. Just curious how much is needed to push that back window up without making it real difficult to close.
Durania
Most autoparts stores carry those lift struts in various lengths. We had to buy some the other day for my company car. It's a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the middle glass portion wouldn't stay open and would wack you in the noggin.
mwc951
The one's I just purchased were 14" center to center. $20 a piece and have no problem raising the relitavely light hatch.
Responsible Jon
Installed my new struts today. Fully extended … 14 inches … Fully retracted … 8 1/2 inches (center to center of the eye socket) Diameter rod = 6mm / tube = 15mm 24 pound force at rest (full extension). Got them on Ebay, and they work great. They actually help the snugtop to close easier, because once you get it almost closed, the start to pull it shut and that lets the cams lock in to place easily. If only I needed in there more often!
Durania
Excellent! Now, post some pictures of that brat.

I've been looking for these same items for a while now. Care to share the brand/part information and where you got them. I'd be eternally grateful.
