Will a GL Radiator fit in a Loyale

Featured Replies

put a hole in my radiator last night from a little front end impact someone in my town has a gl radiator for sale on craigslist and i was wondering if theres any differences. my loyale is 1990 non-turbo.

What year GL is the radiator from?

+1, plus what body style?

"GL" is a trim level, and was used through different engine-series and body styles. The EA81 engine-series use radiators of different size and fitment then the EA82 engine-series. Certain body styles within an engine-series (e.g. - XT) use a different radiator.

The Loyale is mostly a renamed EA82 sedan/wagon, with minor differences mostly in the wagon's rear sheetmetal and windows. IIRC, the radiator is ALMOST the same as the pre-Loyale EA82-engined sedans and wagons. (PHEW!) Again IIRC, the difference is the shape/angle of the lower radiator outlet, manageable by buying the radiator hose to match the radiator.

called the guy today and found out its out of an 87 so ea82, pretty sure its a wagon too

One thing I forgot to ask is whether or not your car is a manual tranny or automatic. Automatics require a radiator with a tranny cooler; most aftermarket radiators just include the cooler regardless of tranny type.

Otherwise, it should fit but probably will need some attention to the lower hose.

Hopefully, the radiator is inexpensive. You can get a new one (last time I checked) for around $100. Used ones can be a bit of a "throw of the dice". The radiators tend to plug up; not hard to check if it is in a running car, but tough if the radiator is already pulled.

beware 85-87-89, since hete were gl hatchbacks that were ea81 and brats as well.

this is true when shopping for parts at the auto stores

Good catch, Miles. :) I read what I wanted to, I guess... I saw "87 EA82". :-\

Yep, assuming it's an Ea82 (and yep, '87 doesn't mean it is), it will fit. It will require a different lower radiator hose as the output comes out a different angle. But that's easy.

If you're car is an automatic, you will need a rad for an auto. if yours is a manual, either will work fine.
