Oil question?

Featured Replies

I am pretty much broke (no money), but need to do a oil change in my GL, because I put too much in last time (5 quarters). I found some old oil in storage, and I was wondering if oil is ever TOO old to put into a vehicle? It's about 2 years old, and it looks normal to me... I plan on putting 3 quarters of oil in with a quart of STP.

What ya think? Thanks!

So I guess it's not a big deal... 8 views no replies. That's cool, I will do it then...

If the bottles are unopened you will be fine. I would buy another quart of cheap oil before I put STP in.

Thanks Bratman. Yes they were unopened. Put 2 quarters oil, then STP, then top it off with oil. It purrs really nice now.

if you're broke don't bother with the STP, you're not gaining anything by using it.

i also wouldn't change the oil just because it's overfilled. just drain it partially to get it where it needs to be. it's easy to do, i do it all the time to get transmission fluid levels right. just hold the oil plug up there and loosen it, once it's off keep pressure upwards and just tilt it a little to let oil slowly drain out. screw it back in and check the level. or drain it into a clean container and refill as necessary.

2 year old oil - no big deal.
