we brought my subaru to a non subaru tranny guy to look at because he is my dads friend, anyways he thought it was a chutch in the tranny. the noise was noticed when i was pulling into a parking spot and it made a clunk nosie. also this clunk happens in reverse and also now when i put it into park and take the key out, this one shakes the whole car. he took apart my tranny and inspected them they were black and replaced them. it still makes these noises. also right after i noticed these noises my tranny appeared to have filled with water some how misteriously. it was not from radiator becasuse that was full and fluid was uncontaminated. we changed the tranny oil from where it was strawberry milk colored to just about perfict color now. i did drive through a puddle but really?? noise is still happening. please help my poor sick little baby.

do a search for ''torque bind'', and read up.

 

if you have an auto trans, put in the FWD fuse and see if it goes away.

97 subaru outback 190,000 miles. we have taken fuse out and is better, strangly when it was taken to car wash yestarday it noises are increased ten fold and even with the fuse out it is making them. this morning when car has been dried for a while it seems that she is running almost perfictly with the fuse still out.

rear clutches changed, solinoid changed. still making noise running out of options. i check the torque bind thing and have check all on that list. any ideas??

a former ase certiffied mechanic replaced them. is now now technacily retired and works from home.

all tires match. they are studded snow right now and new.

he is a tranny mechanic. he is my dads friend and he charged me 200 for the clutches and 150 for the solinoid.

this should have been diagnosed a little better.

 

*when* exactly does it make this noise? all the time? thousands of clunks every time the car is running? only certain times....describe it for us. it's hard to know just with words, so give us some more details.

 

i'd verify *where* the noise is coming from. is it definitely coming from the trans? and if so, the rear, middle, or front?

 

is there still water contaminating the fluid, that sounds bizarre.
