Amos & Buster
I accidently installed a Purolator Pure One oil filter pl14459 (which was purchased for my girlfriend's 2003 acura) and installed it on my 2000 Forester instead of the pl14460. Can I run the pl14459 filter safely in my Forester or do u reccomend me making a mess and trying to swap filters. Thanks.
Rooster2
I think I would replace it with the correct filter. I don't think you will loose that much oil, when removing the filter. It is not like pulling the pan drain plug, where all the oil is drained out. I bet less then a pint of oil will drain out.
AWDfreak
It shouldn't do any harm, however, the PL14459 doesn't have the Subaru-spec bypass valve. Go get a PL14460 when you can.
forester2002s
Purolator Specifications for PL 14460: http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/resources/Popup/Pages/PartDetailPopup.aspx?partnum=PL14460 Purolator Specifications for PL 14459: http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/resources/Popup/Pages/PartDetailPopup.aspx?partnum=PL14459 These are the main differences: PL14460: Anti-drain-back valve NO; Relief Valve setting 20-25 psi; PL14459: Anti-drain-back valve YES; Relief Valve setting 12-15 psi. Based on those specs, I would definately change the filter ASAP.
Amos & Buster
Thanks for the info. Luckily I have the car parked and used my truck to get to work today. I will replace it with the proper filter.
