Anyone out there had any luck in putting newer seats in a older 80's suby? I have a 85 wagon that runs great and i drive everywhere. But, the seats are really broken down. I wanted to put some legacy or ? seats in it but have been told it will take lots of modifications. Anyone had any luck?

You can put any seat in any car with a little creativity. I made little tabs for my 93 impreza seats that are in my 85 brat.

How hard are these tabs to put in? Just a tack weld or?

I put a set of 05 STi seats into my '87 RX using the factory EA82 rails that I welded 1/4" steel flat stock onto for tabs to bolt to the seats.

Yes, basically... I cut the mounts off and tack welded pieces of flat bar to make my mounts. Pulled the seats out and finished the welds. Little bit of paint and BAM!!!!

I put a set of flofit seats (think recaros) in my EA81 coupe. All the mounting points lined up perfectly with the factory EA81 rails so all i had to do was space the seats up off the rails 1/4" to clear everything.

 

Legacy seats are easy to put into an EA82. It just requires a little modification of the EA seat rails and removal of the Legacy ones. Took me about half an hour with a drill, a hammer and cold chisel and some scavenged hardware.

Used online. They come up on ebay and on craigslist from time to time. I would never pay new for them. The price of a pair new is insane. I probably stole these for the price i paid but no one really wanted a pair of brown seats...except me

I have Mitsubishi Eclipse seats in my Brat and RX.

Takes a lot more welding, cutting and brackets but the results are nice.

What exactly are you saying? That seats from a 99 Escort fit the same? Or that those are seats out of an escort that fit into your 99?

I am getting ready to go hunt for some of those seats. So I was just trying to get HIM to clarify.

It is indeed a hatch, but from the back of the front seats forward everything is identical to a Brat.

 

As a side note, seats from any escort in that era will work, the ones from a GT are just nicer.
