June 14, 201114 yr I am going to go a 5 lug swap on my other brat, I will be using the legacy front knuckles and struts and what not. I was looking to see if there was a factory type upgrade for the brakes. As in wrx sti rs... I thought I seen somewhere on here that you can use wrx front calipers and rotors but you would need to get a mounting plate from subaru... cant find that thread anymore...
June 14, 201114 yr You don't say what year Legacy, but the OB's had dual-piston calipers w/10.7" (?) rotors from ~'96-'00. These will fit under the 15" rims. The '01/'02/'03+ OB/WRX/Forester used the dual-piston calipers w/11.4" rotors, and yes- you'll need the mounting brackets, but they work perfect on my '90 Legacy....you'll also need @ least 16" rims to clear 'em. p.s. make sure you know the exact year if you get the 11.4" version..there were multiple versions installed by Subaru during the '02-03 period, @ least on the WRX, so getting the correct pads depends on the year. June 14, 201114 yr Author Good to know in the years, I plan on using knucks and struts from an ealy 90's legacy, 89-94. I also plan on running a 17 inch wheel, so caliper clearance isnt an issue.
June 14, 201114 yr With a 17" wheel could even bolt on a 4 pot front caliper from an 06-07 WRX....you know, the fancy red ones. They work awesome, and will bolt right on the Legacy hubs.
June 14, 201114 yr Author Would the 06-07 wrx need the extra bracket? That is the look I am going for... red calipers and black, well maybe black/chrome wheels.
June 14, 201114 yr you can go with 2 pot calipers and rotors and fit under 15 inch wheels. I swapped all the brakes from a 2000 outback wagon to my 94 gt wagon
June 15, 201114 yr jamals brake write up is in the USRM - Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual - dig through the brake area and look for it, it's a great read for figuring out stuff like this.
June 15, 201114 yr Author So I read through his right up (really great info), but still didn't find what I was looking for. I really like the idea of using the red wry factory calipers, but I never seen what kind of bracket was needed. I am looking to find someone that has done this upgrade and can give some words of advice on parts needed.
