Hey everyone my car has a cel and I took it to the shop to find out why...find out I got 4 codes. 2 o2 sensors map sensor and some starter switch code...a week or so goes by I bring my car to the shop to get the o2 sensors done because I didn't feel like doing them...

 

pay the guy get the car back runs fine for a few days get in it to go home from work and it won't stay runing idles at 1500 then drops to 1000 rpm and sounds like its missing on 3 cylinders really bad give it some gas and it clears up for a min then does the same thing....I call my friend get him to drive it home since he could keep it runing some how puts his obd2 scanner on it and tada 11 codes...

 

I don't remember all of them but one was the map sensor one was the o2 sensor one was the maf sensor again the starter switch thing. A cylinder miss fire and it goes on I don't remember the whole list ...what do u guys think junk it and get something else or fix it and if u say fix it where can I get some sensors cheap

l would start with the maf sensor. unplug it and see if it does any better. it may not but worth a shot. I have been through the MAF debacle

Clear the codes, and see what comes back immediately. With that many, some will probably immediately come back.

 

But I'd start checking connectors... 11 censors didn't all die at the same time, you have a wiring problem. Pull the engine harness connectors, check to see if they're corroded, have crap in them, etc. Clean them up. Check the computer connector. I've had a problem that I tracked down finally to a loose computer connector.

And just check all the engine wiring, something has come loose that's causing massive mayhem.

the maf will cause chain codes. including all 4 cyl misfires, fuel trim bank 1 map. you name it. I would try swapping it for known good if you can find one to borrow. I have yet to see a (non flood) car suddenly throw 11 codes over wiring. I just went through this with my forester. how new is your fuel filter? I had one break up on me and cause low fuel pressure and throw a ton of codes too.

I did an engine swap and forgot one of the engine connectors once... It ran, amazingly. But terribly and threw about 11 codes. That's why I said clear codes, and see what comes back. If it's a wiring problem where the computer just doesn't see the sensors, the codes will come right back. Not having the MAF plugged in won't throw 11 codes all at once, it'll take some driving to upset the computer into throwing codes for everything.

Idk how old the filter is

I've never had a reason to look at it and it normally drives the same every day

whenever you have multiple codes clear them all then wait. When they come back tell us the exact numbers. Next you look for a common denominator (bad ground, dirty/broken harness or plug) then we can dig into some more.

 

Also we always need model/engine/tranny/year/miles. I know it says 97ej22 but doesnt tell us all.

That many codes is almost always a wiring issue.

There are three connectors on the top of the bell housing on the passenger side. These three connectors contain nearly ALL of the wiring between the engine/sensors and the ECU. If there was a problem here it would be corroded, dirty, or wet contacts inside one or some of those three connectors.

 

Another possibility could be mouse damage.

Its a 97 impreza obw with a ej22 5spd with 126k miles
