September 9, 201114 yr Is it normal for the clutch slave cylinder (which, incidentally, is shaped just like one of Thor's 'mini-hammers') to get so hot...? I tried to bleed it after a drive and I could barely touch it it was so hot! --Damien
September 13, 201114 yr I think this is why my slave cylinder seals are failing after 109k miles. That puppy really heats up in a summer traffic jam.
September 19, 201114 yr Hrmm is your clutch slipping and you don't know it? Is the bell housing as hot? it may just be a bad location, I don't know. Can you take a temp on it as hot to touch isnt really all that hot for a part.
October 1, 201114 yr Author well the clutch does now slip a little bit...when the car is more laden (with extra passengers, for example) the shudder problem is not so bad.... What are symptoms of clutches failing anyway in this make and model of auto? I haven't driven a standard in many years so I can't remember.... I flushed the hydraulic fluid and it made a slight improvement but that's about it.... Thanks for your help and input! --Damien

The slipping clutch MAY be throwing out heat MAYBE causing it to get hot, but in all honesty this is the same type of construction as a wheel cylinder so it can handle the heat.
October 1, 201114 yr Author well, with more weight the problem is less bad...but it does seem to slip a little bit.... :-\
October 1, 201114 yr Slipping never gets better, unless you want it to slip better then it will be more then happy to in the first sub zero blizzard you get.
October 1, 201114 yr Author well I guess I'll just have to keep driving it until it totally fails or gets close to it.....
October 1, 201114 yr CLutch test: Put front bumper against an IMOVABLE object (old tree or building) Set parking brake Start car Shift into the highest gear you have Let out clutch and do everything in your power to keep the car running. If the clutch is good it whold immediatly stall. If it runs at all for any lenrth of time the clutch is on its way out. If you can keep the car running do not keep running the test as you will cook what is left then your clutch
October 3, 201114 yr Author oh...I thought you were being facetious when you suggested that. alrighty...you're the pro. --Damien
