Engine identification?

Featured Replies

I just got an 88 gl wagon 5sp D/R with 220000 miles where do I look for engine ID # This is my second subaru and I would like to upgrade this one.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'll just tell you, your subaru has an EA82

well, yea, your engine is an EA-82, it'll have it engraved on the block, look towrds the front of the block, slightly left of center, it'll be there. the ea-81 tag is the older wagons is in the same place, as a matter of fact, i think thats kind of a universal place for the engine name on all the scoob y engines.

oh, and btw, the after market for these cars is extrememly limited, if at all existant. If you come accross a jack pot of performance parts for these cars, make sure you let us know, or at least me.

Dan

behind and to the left of the dipstick is the model and serial number for the block

bottom of the heads is the model and generation of the heads, gen 1= ea82 gen 2= ea82 gen 3 [ea82 ]

Thanks for the info now I have to figue out what to do to it first. It needs a clutch and rear axels as they were removed before I got it. And it needs rear wheel bearings.

As for after market My other car is a fiero and I am used to that.

How many miles is average for this motor? It has 220k and would like to know how far to push it before I rebuild it.

A 4.9 is in the plan they are plentifull here in Dayton. I have to do some work to the Subaru first. Clutch/bearings/axels. I love my 1985 fiero GT but I also like the subaru.

I had to decide to either fix the seville or the subaru, and I went with the best option, the seville is too nice of a car to drive it during winter in IOWA SALT and snow, hardly any dings or rust :dead:

the subaru is rusty, and suffered a slight interference with a power pole, and is fun in the snow, and cost about $100 to fix:banana:

I have found many pages of good info on the cadero sites for help with the 4.9, including power and rebuild, will post links later

I am in Dayton. I have owned one 84 2wd gl and then the wife got a 88 auto wagon and then gave it to her dad and just last week end her dad gave her this one. I will fix it up. Before I am done she will find something else and I will keep it.

Yes it will fit, but it takes some modifications to get it to in.

Someone here put one of those into a car like yours, but never worked out the injection system to get it running.

Others have succesfully put them into Brats.
