'95 Impreza Hatchback wagon Rear glass

Recommended Posts

So.. a friend of mine called me to help her find a new rear glass because some hooligans broke it out. Safelite quoted >600 just for the glass because its a wagon. for the coupe's and sedans its only 250ish.. Is this right? it cant be all that much for a wiper.. can it?

Where can I find one for cheaper? or would it just be cheaper to go to a JY and pull the whole rear hatch?

any help would be awesome!

Go to pick and pull or a scrapyard; I would think '93-'95 models would be compatible for that.

The scrapyard charges you just a small amount, but you probably want to hire someone off of craigslist or so that has pulled these before. It can take a bit of time, like a pro about an hr to two. I wouldn't attempt myself unless i had to.

btw wow what a***holes. the broke the most expensive and difficult window to swap, and you cannot even unlock the door from the rear hatch if they were thinking of breaking in; for that any of the side windows would do.

Oh, its worse than that... they randomly broke out windows. There were others the same night. Nothing stolen just broke the window for no reason

www.car-part.com

They are not that bad to change. You need to drop the headliner some for access to the bolts. The wiring harness needs to be pulled through the body as you remove the hatch. When you do that on the are you are going to install it on tie a string or wire to the harness so you can pull the new one back down.

swap the entire rear hatch - it's really easy. problem will be finding the right color. so you either look at car-parts.com like larry said and find one the right color or buy one and paint to match.

they are easy to swap out, not much to it at all. i've done it by myself before, would be much simpler with a helper.

not sure how different the rear hatch would be but painting is typically $200 per panel (for a fender, door, etc professionally done at a shop). so if you buy en entire hatch for $100 and $200 to paint you're golden.

or you could just buy the entire hatch and pay a windshield/glass guy $50-$100 to swap it into the original to avoid painting. the rear may be trickier though with the defrost lines/etc, not sure.
