November 27, 201114 yr So, I was cruising along my street a few blocks from my house after work one night, and hit a pothole about a foot deep. This was the result: Any suggestions are welcomed greatly Edited November 27, 201114 yr by Subaruby Doo!
November 27, 201114 yr Those look like the factory stock wheels. They should be easy to find in junk yards. I have a set I would give away, but you live kind of far to pick them up.
November 27, 201114 yr hammer the lip out and re-seat the bead. Then you can drive it to the junkyard for new wheels. you can get the bead to seat if you can hold the tire against the rim while adding air at the same time. jack up the car or take the wheel off to do this.

Okay this is how far I've gotten: Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/img] Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/img] I used two propane torches to heat the edge of the rim until it was red hot, then I bent it back into place with a pair of channel locks and finished the outside lip with the hammer. This was the result
November 28, 201114 yr If this happened on a public city street, you need to send them copies of photos, and copies of the repair bill. They should reimburse you. Call the pothole hotline, we have ten around my area, bet you do as well. if this happened on a private or business property, send them the bill.
November 28, 201114 yr I'v saved a couple steelies after hitting rocks and it works fine as long as the area were the bead sits isn't bent. I always pull the tire off so I can grind down any sharp edges that can hurt a tire and it also is just easier to do. I can't believe you left the tire on! In washington, if you hit a pothole on a public road, and it does damage to your rig, the state will cover any damages. A buddy's cousin got $1000 in new alloys because the bead broke on one from a pothole and a replacement wasn't available that matched. Now that you've already repaired/altered the wheel you may be out of luck. Also if you resize your images to roughly 700 pixels wide, your thread willn't take up 3 screen widths:D
November 28, 201114 yr Author Haha thanks for the help guys, probably saved me about 4 or 500 just by going the DIY route
