Hi

 

My son has a 2010 Impreza and was home from college for Thanksgiving. I went out to start his car to move it and when it started the RPM fluctuated wildly "by itself" for a few seconds.

 

I tapped the gas pedal and it stopped - but I am not sure that it wasn't just a coincidence?

 

I started it a few other times and it did not do it again. I called the local Subaru dealer --- and they thought it might have had gas left in the cylinders??

 

Has anybody had this happen? The weather has been about 60 during the day and getting down to 30 at night and I was wondering if this might have caused some confusion with an oxygen sensor or something?

My first thought would be a dirty IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). Might try cleaning it and see if that helps.

Can you point me in the right direction? Where is this valve?

If it has only happened once, I would not go tearing into things.

 

If it does occur, Im sure the car is still under warranty. Let the dealer deal with it.
