reliability of 2.0 liter engines

Featured Replies

How reliable are the 2.0 l engines? Any problems like the 2.5 l headgasket problems? I also see there is a 3.0 l engine. What's the scoop on this model? Looking for a newer Subaru and want to avoid the problem motors.

Check out the 1995 - ?? 2.2l in the Legacy...newer car...wonderful engine :D

Speaking of what what the last year you could get the 2.2 in the legacy?

My wife has one in her 96, but after that, I think they went to Outbacks.

The EZ30 is a pretty cool engine. DOHC, chain driven cams. Relatively high CR, requires premium fuel. 212 HP. Subaru says the timing chain is lifetime. It appears to have a couple of tensioners on it, I don't know if that is good or bad. My experience with timing chains has been consistent wear, stretching, and loosening on american makes without tensioners by 150k miles, I hope Subaru does better.

FWIW, A friend of mine has a '97 legacy wagon with a 2.2l 5-MT.
