January 25, 201214 yr Car has been starting fine & no previous warnings that something was about to quit working. I ran the car & turned it off, when i went to restart the car nothing happens when I turn the key. Headlights and electronics work but when the key turns to start, nothing happens. No audible clicks, no motor, cranking, no nothing. Its a MT and i waz able to catch it in gear & was able to run with headlights and electronics for 25 minutes with no problems. If it is the starter, any brands to stAy away from or ones u would reccomend?
January 25, 201214 yr Make sure it's not the alternator first. Stay away from WOrldwide for sure. I got a pile of starters here from 95-99's.
January 25, 201214 yr car parts store might be able to test the starter. Kinda odd you here nothing, wondering if there's a problem in the column. Also, don't ignore the possibility of a bad battery cable. Just had this cause issues on my daughter's 06 Impala.
January 26, 201214 yr Author Ok so had a chance to get a look at things in the daylight today. It appears that the single strand wire that attaches to the starter selenoid (think thats what its called) has broken at the electrical connector. I pulled the starter to have it tested anyway. The stArter motor turned when hooked up to the tester. It did sound like it may have a bad bearing or something internal is whinning a bit. Going to install a new connector & hook it back up to see if it will work on the car. If so im getting a used starter at a local used parts shop. The one i had tested reads mitsubishi, its that standard issue subby or an aftermarket part? Hopefully its not an electrical issue associated with the alarm system thAt is preventing the starter motor from engaging. I did follow the manual for using that bypAss switch under the stearing colum.
January 26, 201214 yr Author Problem solved. Once i put a new electrical connector on the lone wire going to the selenoid the starter motor turned. It took some messing around with the alarm thing under the steering colum but eventually i deactivated the starter shut off thing.
