exhaust gets louder and louder

Featured Replies

99 obw. The exhaust was replaced from the y pipe to the tailpipe. Old tailpipe and muffler. Exhaust is getting louder and louder thru the exhaust pipe. No leaks, sounds like I'm running glasspacks. Do these oem muffler tend to fail like this? Most exhaust systems just rot away. Could the muffler be rotten from the inside out? No leaks, no holes, just louder and louder.

IT is probably separating at the seems on the side you can't see.

It really is not uncommon for a muffler to have the baffles fail from rust and or vibration.

I had mine rust from the inside out. Two months or less prior to this picture I didn't see any signs of problems. Muffler was probably 4 or 5 years old.

Also check where the resonator section has a mount. I've seen a number crack there. I attempted to pull mine in one section but it broke at the mount.
