January 29, 201214 yr My first question is: Do they have a stock LSD rear with the same ratio as the D/R 5MT
January 29, 201214 yr VLSD, yes, some early legacy turbo cars came with a 3.9:1 viscous LSD. Clutch type, no, they were all 3.7:1, you will have to change ratios or buy one that someone has already converted. You are looking for 3.9:1 for the record... Spencer
January 29, 201214 yr Author Ok so i need to look for a VLSD So look in a early legacy turbo car for the 3.9:1 and the D/R 5MT is 3.9:1 correct
January 29, 201214 yr If you're using it in a lifted off road car you're pretty much wasting your time. The VLSD is designed to work with heat that is generated by friction at speed. Not likely created by motoring around in 1st gear in low-range. Most of them are worn out, or close to worn out anyhow, and are non-serviceable. A converted clutch type LSD would be better, still though you'll likely end up trashing it. The larger tire size acts as a larger fulcrum, the clutches wont "lock" if one tire is completely off the ground. Just weld it and be done with it.
January 29, 201214 yr Author So what would be the best route just weld the rear and replace tires more often. The car has a frankenmotor and is getting a 8" lift with 30" M/T
January 29, 201214 yr You won't wear tires as bad as you think. Rotate them every 4000-6000 miles, you won't even notice the wear. I'm assuming (by your board name) that it's a Legacy? If it is an EA series car, pull an axle until you hit the trail, then put it back in. Spencer
January 29, 201214 yr Author Well now its onto does anyone have a D/R 5MT laying around and a matching rear i could buy. Im in LA till the end of February so i wont need it till then
January 29, 201214 yr I have 2 of them, both need repair.... 1 has bad front diff, the other has bad output shaft gears, take the tail section off the one with the bad diff, put it on the one with the bad tail section, and boom... You're set..... Make an offer via PM, they are located in east Clark county. I can also probly hook you up with a welded diff too.... You may have to do some assembly on your part, but the pricing will be pretty decent.....
January 29, 201214 yr You realize you need an adaptor plate to mate a 5MT D/R to an EJ engine right? GD
