I have the idles!!

Featured Replies

Hey... Got a 1982-88 subaru wagon... I did a VIN search on it and it comes up with the fact I should have a turbo... I am not idiot... it doesn't have one... anyways... I have the issue where... I have to feather the gas pedal to start it... she idles... but as so as I put my foot on the gas... she dies... it does back fire through the intake... hard starting cold... and when I do drive it... slight chug when going down the road, when excellerating from a stop... all power lose until about 250 hundred RPMs... then she surges to life. I read a few threads on here... and the pictures posted do not look like my cars engine and in take... I am linking my intake and engine pics... ... I am poor and looking for a easy fix and cheap fix... and I need it fixed fast... PLEASE HELP!!! :Flame:

You have a typical SPFI (single port fuel injection) engine. Your car almost certainly never had a turbo. Could be a VIN mix up.

Check your valve timing (timing belt alignment) and check your ignition timing, etc. Check the plugs and wires, cap/rotor, etc.

yeah, the weird thing also with vin numbers, you have to use the vin number system from the year of the car. Even then, it isn't perfect. My wife's car is sometimes shown as an LL Bean and it is not.
