February 23, 201214 yr I just got back into Subies with an 86 Loyale GL wagon, manual trans. She runs and drives very well, can't believe how tight the shifting still is for 200K. When you put on the turn signals, the tach bounces slightly and when you have the right signal on, you can wriggle the lever and make the engine cut out or stutter. It does not stutter/cut out when doing the same thing with the left signal. I'm not with the car right now so I'm gathering info on things to look for when I get back. I'm leaning towards the ign. switch out of habit with my Vanagons. When those switches start to act up, all kinds of weird sh*t starts happening with the van. What do ya'll think?
February 24, 201214 yr the tach fluctuation is likely dash grounds. not sure about a blinker making the engine cut out... that's odd..
February 24, 201214 yr Sounds to me like the turn Signal Shifter is Loose, also the contacts... you must remove the Cover from the Steering column to verify the Connections and re-tighten the Screws. Also check for proper Grounding, maybe that connection is Loose or the Bolt where is placed is rusted, preventing the Good connection. Good Luck! Kind Regards.

February 25, 201214 yr It wouldn't hurt to have the alternator tested too... make sure its putting out enough juice. My tach bounced in my GL when the alternator was on its way out (though not with any involvement from the signal) But still... most parts stores will test it free.
