I need a new engine

Featured Replies

Hello as the the title states i need a new engine. Its for my 1999 legacy gt 2.5l . Can anyone recomend a reputable engine or parts dealer i can buy an engine from that will have a warranty and be comp tested, etc. thanks alot

Palm Harbor, as in Palm Harbor, FL? I grew up in St. Pete, just south of you!

I'd consider a 2.2 engine replacement. The one that a garage put in mine he installed for around $1500 including the engine. It had around 75K on it and was in great shape.

99 has an 8 bolt bellhousing, 95 has a 4 bolt. You will need to do something for the lower starter mount bolt, but other than that it bolts up.

I've heard people run the starter with just the top bolt, and it does fine.

Like put a bolt in it?

:P

Maybe the later ones are different, I pulled an engone out of a 99 that still had the stud and 17mm nut on the trans bell housing for the starter.

for the outbacks at least, there are a few early ones in 99MY that use the same trans as the 98 outback, TZ102Z2DBA as opposed to the phase 2 trans, TZ1A2ZJEBA. but i have no idea how many.

and i do not know if the legacy was similar.

i think there is only one trans listed for the GT.

it all depends on what you are trying to do, replace existing with used, install new /rebuilt with 3/36 warranty, or swap in an ej22 to keep it on the road. price will vary widely.
