Rear defroster button, no light no work?

Featured Replies

A few weeks ago I noticed the rear defroster light no longer comes on when the switch is pressed. It also appears that the defroster isn't working. I checked the fuse under the steering column and it lights up on both poles. I am open to suggestions of what to check next.

Some folks have found the wire broken where it passes through the roof and the pivit area of the hatch. It gets stessed over time and breaks.

I've definitely been having problems with the hatch. Both of the struts have failed. Maybe I got other stuff going on.

The rear-window heater is typically controlled by a relay that 'latches in' when you press the heater-button.

If that relay failed, then neither the heater nor the light would work.

You might try looking for that relay under the hood, in the fuse/breaker/relay box.

Found the fuse, which lights up on both poles with my fuse tester. Is the relay directly connected to the switch? I'll try to dig around and see what I can see.

On my '99 FSM it shows the relay for the rear defrost on the Fuse Block inside the car. Next to the Tail Illumination and Main Fan relay.

There is also a Defog Timer in the circuit (no idea where that is actually located though).
