I have a '90 EJ22 and it stumbles throughout the power band. the only code it has thrown is #49 - improper mass air sensor. I have replaced the sensor and no luck. Anyone have any insight on #49.

 

Fault #23 is also mass air sensor related. The fsm goes in to detail on how to diagnose the problem. I went through the steps and everything checked out fine. Fsm doesn't have any help for fault 49. Thanks

Means the transmission type doesn't match the MAF type. Either you have a MAF for an auto with a manual ECU or the MAF for a manual with an auto ECU.

Thanks for the help. I have thought of that and i assumed the one in my swap was correct. I went ahead and looked in the parts catalog and sure enough i had the wrong one. Searched around and found one for a m/t and the code cleared. thanks!

2.2 and 2.5 are not the same found out the hard way wreaker got us wrong one dident set any codes but ran realy rough and lean.
