01 Forester power steering problems

Featured Replies

I'm posting this for a friend who replaced a steering pump on an 01 forester.I assume it lost its power assist. That did not make it any better,so he replaced the rack also.It still is bad,he says even worse.I'm hoping someone can tell me there is a specific bleeding procedure or maybe a collapsed line issue or something.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,Rusty.

Bleeding is easy, just keep turning full lock to full lock untill all the air is out.

What are the symptons

What year (skip this one)

How many miles

May be bad ball joints if it is because the steering is stiff

Edited by nipper

if it whines , probably sucking in air. Not an uncommon problem.

leaks could be lines/hoses.

yeah, we need details.
