Heater Resistor fix

Featured Replies

Finally got around to trying out the blower motor resistor pack fix that Ed Rach/Bill Putney posted a while back- It works great! -Just have to figure where to mount this big honkin box underneath. Ha. At least I won't have to deal with my fan speeds crapping out on me anymore..

OK, so where can I get one of these??? my fan only runs on 3 and 4! hmmm, maybe better get two of these things! :) since we are about to have a second Sube on the road.

Sorry, wasn't clear on that. I bought some resistors and soldered 'em together myself, put the pack in a pvc electrical outlet box. I used the original connector from the old resistor pack. I just wanted to let people know that it works if they want to try it themselves. -I got tired of trying jy replacement packs that only last a year or so.....

Nice piece of work. Do you remember the resistor values you used. It's been so long that I didn't think anyone could find those old posts. I haven't even tried to look for them recently.

I had copied the values from a post a while back:

Coil A: Four 1.0 ohm 10W resistors, two in series, the other two in series, put the two series strings in parallel. Result 1.0 ohm 40W.

(Digi-Key p/n 1.0W-10-ND)

Coil B: Four 3.3 ohm 10W resistors in parallel. Result 0.83 ohm at 40W

Coil C: Five 3.3 ohm 10W resistors in parallel. 0.66 ohm at 40W.

(Digi-Key p/n: 3.3-10-ND)

The whole thing cost about $8 to make-

I have enough resistors to build another. Instead of stacking the coils I might try to mount them in a shallow rectangular project box, might be easier to mount underneath.

ok, so would it be possible to get a schematic of this thing?? the pic you posted doenst really show enough for me to figure this thing out - not an electronic wiz, but i could probably figure it out if I had some sort of drawing to go by.

also, where did you get the pigtail from? an old resistor pack?

I didn't really have a schematic to go by, I just used the information I posted above to build the resistor pack.

I used the Blower Motor schematic from the FSM to figure out which wire from the connector goes to which coil. (1-4 speed levels). I had an old resistor pack that I took the connector off of. You can get one of them from a jy, doesn't matter if the resistor pack is toast or not.

PM or email me if you want more specifics, I can send you the info from the FSM schematics, and draw up a schematic of the coil pack. This fix isn't hard to do.

If I remember correctly, Bill Putney published a schematic diagram of the resistor pack. It should be in the archives somewhere. If not I can figure it out and I'll get it posted.
