Install issues - can i repack the front bearings with race already pressed in?

Featured Replies

The process of installing the bearings on the front hubs took some time and lots of impacting. Through the process and vibrations the grease was contaminated and the bearing cages fell out (multiple times).

Seems like I should be able to simply clean everything up, regrease and put them back in right?

Synthetic high temperature wheel bearing grease?

I believe they are sealed unites and if the bearing is falling out they are junk.

Junk yard hub with bearing installed is the way I'd go.

they have a retaining plastic thing in the middle of them and they do come apart....at least these do?

i'm just going to clean them up and finish up the install at this point.

i agree - i'm looking for some used knuckles too.

I don't see anything wrong with repacking them. If they will come apart go for it.

If your bearing is the same as the one I received, with the plastic ring, I would think you could repack them even with the race installed already. Once I popped out that yellow ring, the inner and outer bearings were free to come out of the race and tried to escape. So as long as the hub wasn't pressed back in yet it seems like you could repack them.

front wheel berring replacment 45 min make shure you support the back berring when pressing it toghter
