July 6, 201213 yr I recently purchased some 1986 Subaru service manuals from Books4Cars but they do not really include the GL hatchbacks. Seems to be geared towards the 3rd generation. Does anyone have the service manual that includes the ea81 hatchbacks and could maybe tell me which one to purchase?
July 6, 201213 yr You need the 84 book. There are little supplement books for up to 89 around at dealers and such in their back rooms but they aren't necessary and all build off the last primary year of the ea81 series 1984. You will also want to order parts that way usually unless its a specialist or risk the same problem-lots of ea82 parts.
July 7, 201213 yr How to keep your Subaru Alive by Larry Owens is a great introductory book for the early EA81 cars. Very basic but effective none the less. Might be a pdf copy available here on the Board. Subaru 1600, 1800 Service Manual by Robert Bentley (ISBN 0-8376-0270-X). This is a Bentley re-write of the Factory Service Manual. And in some ways, it is better than the factory version. Geared for the true mechanic who's willing to really dig into servicing his own Subaru. Covers 1978 to 1984. July 8, 201213 yr i also own that one i think its the right one your taking about my dad got it for $5:DI once paid $30 for a hardcopy. Worth every penny. But I've seen them as low as $5. Then again there's the pdf.....
