July 23, 201213 yr Each time I look thru your posts on the BRAT's, I find myself thinking I need a building like you have. My 2 car garage just isn't big enough. Of course, that would just mean "more stuff" accumilated though......
July 23, 201213 yr Author Each time I look thru your posts on the BRAT's, I find myself thinking I need a building like you have. My 2 car garage just isn't big enough.Of course, that would just mean "more stuff" accumilated though...... yah its very nice during the winter and when its raining because it stays warm but its a green house about 80ftx20ft and during the summer its over 10-15 degrees hotter than outside so when its 90 its 100-105 but u can still cetch me out there working on the brats:grin:
July 23, 201213 yr Was thinking it was a greenhouse type structure, mainly from seeing the fan openings on the end in one of the pics. Still,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
July 27, 201213 yr Author didn't get to do anything today on the brat:(it took me all day to clean my dads geo metro i did it very thoroughly interior and exterior its still a little dirty but need it looking goo to sell on craigslist heres the add to explain why http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/3165714842.html and heres my pic updated from the last few days:headbang: now this was a pain then primed that area need to do the reast of bed but that comes after sanding, wire wheeling, and grinding(grinding the things down from when some cut out rear seats:mad:but now have bolt on:cool: someone replace the panel sometime when this was new because it looks like a pro-job or dealer when u look carefully at it u cant tell till u take the cover off put on some pray on bed liner need to go get some more to finish the bed and undercarriage sanded a little sanded a lot rear bumper took off wheel to prime and paint and also for extra support primed some spray painted a little because dont want more rust

July 27, 201213 yr Author funny my 79 brat i just restored has a engine from apolo motors to funny has the same tag on valve cover where is that engine shop any ideas ? it says 12702 N.E 15th Place Bellevue, WA 98005 then it has two phone numbers 205-462-1717 and 800-444-8824 my dad bought the motor from a friend when i took off every thing on top the engine and took of valve covers then heads, once my dad came to look at what the engine looked like he said where not using that motor, because it was really ruff on the inside, but ivan i do know from my dads friend that these motors are japenese imports so they will have lower miles on the car then u think u do
July 29, 201213 yr Author finished up the bed took a lot of time but it was well worth it, i had to grind down the spots where someone cut out the rear seats:mad:wire wheel all the rust off, prime and paint it, and rubberized bed liner in a can worked and looks awesome:headbang: awesome handle right:cool:used a extra subaru bolt i had after i broke the other handle after all the grinding made i look better metal shards primed it flat black spray paint made it look nice but prefer gloss rubberized coat looks nice and don't have to worry about scratching paint
July 29, 201213 yr Looking good! I need to get off my butt and do exactly what you have done to the bed. My only issue us canned liners. They do exactly what is shown - areas of too much liner build up in areas. But you can't complain cause it is cheap. Thanks for sharing all you are doing.
July 29, 201213 yr good job so far looks like you have put alot of work into that brat it ought to be a good one when you'r done. i wish i had the chance to do that when i was your age, its lucky you have a nice size shop to work in. i've changed drivelines in halfton trucks in the middle of the winter in the snow before, that really sucks because your sockets freeze to your ratchet (and your hands to) . lol its nice when you can pull your car into a shop and work on it. and be somewhat warm in the winter also i like your idea of putting a rubberized coating in the back, good idea. Edited July 29, 201213 yr by mikaleda
July 29, 201213 yr Rubberized under coating is a for road sounds, It never really drys out since it is rubber, and gets scratched up pretty easily because it is soft. The truck bed liner spray is the stuff you should be using for that area. Also I hate getting that stuff off when a repair is needed. glad to see that your motivated at your age, keep it up and you will have a nice driver in highschool. Edited July 30, 201213 yr by Reza
July 30, 201213 yr Author the bed liner seemed prity hard to me when i was walking around on it today:lol:i was doing touch up to spots i missed
July 30, 201213 yr Right on man, I've been doing some painting on my ol ************ box as well. Looking forward to seeing it when its done!
August 8, 201213 yr Author another pic update haven't done one in a while;) got both valve covers painted primed the right side rear quarter panel if any of u guys ever have taped off one of these to paint u know how long it takes to do it finished preping my 85 brats tail gate handle:clap:took forever had to bondo where emblem was and prime and sand like 5 times to get a good smoothness but im happy with the airbrush i got from harbor freight works great for small jobs and the rust-oleum in a can works good with it when u thin it out with mineral spirits happy with the results just need to put a cleat coat on them, im thinking about getting a subaru emblem sticker made for the handle but it gives it a very clean look the way i have it now Edited August 8, 201213 yr by turbosubarubrat
August 8, 201213 yr awesome stuff. I'm only 16 and I wish I could do this stuff but I have no garage for working.
August 9, 201213 yr Finished is a figurative word. I have spent countless hours on my Brat. Spent hours the other day reforming my grille and the little strips of chrome on the bottom. Amazing how much goes into fixing things that most people would never care about. Add to that I have spent $2000 on a car I bought for $400, lol. Ah hobbies... But back to your build, don't wanna jack your thread.
